Testimonials about Nate’s Book
Jane Hannah Ruppe, 2021
I must commend Nate Miller on his extraordinary book, Simply Sustainable Landscapes: Designing with Edible & Native Plants for the Southeast. Simply Sustainable Landscapes shows you how to utilize edible plants and sustainable methods using the EONS Theory (Edible, Ornamental, Native plants, Sustainable methods) created by Nate and his colleague, Jenesis Johnson, in 2012. Sustainable as defined by Nate means "conserving natural resources and preserving natural cycles and living in nature without disturbing its balance". The rate of biodiversity loss in wildlife and in our food system continues to rapidly accelerate. By utilizing the EONS Method, a multipurpose landscape can be created where there is "a symbiotic relationship between increased pollination, greater harvests, and burgeoning habitat" but which also makes room for the inclusion of ornamentals. This exceptional book is an important and timely contribution to landscaping literature at this critical time when this truly is our last chance to attend to our Mother. 🌎

Nate's book Simply Sustainable Landscapes is a great resource for anyone working to create or maintain natural/native landscapes around their home, large or small. I invested some serious resources in turning my front yard from flat grass into native plantings. This book is going to be invaluable in helping me to maintain what I've got, to help it thrive and mature. Great job!

Craig Wyant, 2019
Nate Miller is a brilliant designer with a vast knowledge of the natural world. He is intimately familiar with the relationship between plants and the wildlife they sustain. This knowledge of plants as a landscape architect extends to experience working with all aspects of soils, water needs, nutrition, color, texture, scale, growth habit, and maintenance. His particular knowledge of plants' relationships and groupings as found in nature is especially fascinating.
